Yoga Therapy

While all yoga is "therapeutic," if you have a target area you want to focus on in your yoga practice it is best to take a private or class designed for your needs. Below is more information about some of the specialty areas that I address in my practice. Please note that I work with many additional conditions and concerns beyond what is listed here; and if I am not confident in addressing your needs I will happily refer you to another practitioner. Rates are listed at the bottom of this page.

Yoga for Fertility

Well, we got the results back and it's a big YES!! We are pregnant. I really feel like I have you to thank for this - you helped me relax SO much and I have truly loved the yoga I have done (and will continue to do) with you! All I have to say is I can't believe it ... I am really in shock right now. Big hug to you. -Gina, Yoga for Fertility student

Yoga is increasingly recommended for people who are trying to conceive, both because it helps relieves the stress that can accompany getting pregnant, and because there are many therapeutic benefits that may enhance fertility. If you are trying to grow your family we will work together privately - individuals and couples welcome - to design a home practice exactly suited for your needs and experience level. We focus on postures, breathing, meditation, mudras, and relaxation techniques that help prepare the body for getting pregnant and tap into your innate fertility. I am experienced in safely working with people during IVF.

Benefits of Yoga for Fertility

  • Increased blood flow to reproductive organs
  • Reduced stress - which in turn, can help decrease cortisol levels
  • Better hormonal balance
  • Overall toning and muscle strengthening
  • Reduce discomfort of side-effects associated with IVF
  • Yoga is a great way to live more comfortably in your body when you are trying to get pregnant!

Yoga for Survivors

I teach a weekly class in Boulder, Colorado, for survivors of any cancer, and also work privately with survivors who want more individual attention. I am a breast cancer survivor myself. I have taught Yoga for Survivors at Tebo Cancer Center, Longmont United Hospital, HealthLinks Clinic, Tree House Yoga Center, and currently at Yo Mama Yoga and Family Center. To find out more about when and where the class meets please check the class schedule.

I am also available to lead on-site yoga workshops at support groups, clinics, hospitals, and other facilities that serve the cancer community. Find out how yoga can help survivors relax, restore, and rebuild their bodies! Contact Laura for more information.

Benefits of Yoga for Cancer Survivors

  • Cancer patients participating in regular yoga classes reported decreased stress and pain, and increased well-being.
  • Cancer patients participating in regular yoga classes reported improvements in their quality and quantity of sleep.
  • Yoga can help break down scar tissue, restore strength and range of motion, and improve lymphatic flow.
  • Yoga can enhance energy, digestion, joint health, circulation, respiration, and glandular function.
  • Yoga is a great way to live more comfortably in your body when you have been diagnosed with cancer.

Class Information
Classes include postures that safely stretch, strengthen, and relax the body. Group class is appropriate for you if:

  1. You are reasonably mobile and can move independently
  2. Your needs can be addressed in a group setting
  3. All surgical incisions are healed
  4. Your platelet count is 20,000+

For those people who don't match the above criteria, 1-on-1 sessions are available. Participants practice at their own pace; class is as gentle or challenging as you make it. You do not have to be experienced, coordinated, or feel good to come to class. Just come!

Before Your First Class
All classes are drop-in, meaning that you do not need to pre-register - just show up. However, you MUST contact the instructor prior to your first class. No exceptions. It is crucial that we are aware of your health history in order to maintain a safe and positive environment. You will also need to complete a health questionnaire and bring it with you to your first class. Please arrive at your first class at least 10 minutes early. Thank you for your cooperation!

What to Bring
Please bring your own yoga mat and wear comfortable (but not overly baggy) clothes in which you can move freely. You may want to dress in layers.

Yoga for Special Kids

I have trained with internationally known yoga instructor Sonia Sumar in her "Yoga for the Special Child" program, and absolutely love working with all types of children. If you have a special child and are curious about trying yoga therapy we can often begin doing this as early as infancy, which usually yields the best results.

Examples of the types of conditions I work with:

  • ADD, ADHD
  • Visual impairment
  • Down Syndrome
  • Autism, Aspergers, Spectrum Disorders
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Children with cancer

Yoga for Pain and Injuries

Coloradans are known for their active lifestyle, and we also suffer our fair share of associated orthopedic injuries and chronic pain. Yoga therapy is a great complementary modality for pain and injuries, including post-surgical rehabilitation. I work with many clients who have back, knee, shoulder, and hip pain - and as someone who has had three knee surgeries and one shoulder surgery myself, I can attest to the healing power of yoga to help in recovery. I am also comfortable working with people who have had joint replacement and experience chronic pain.

Private Session Rates

Most yoga therapy is conducted 1-on-1 and is geared toward addressing a particular need. Aside from what is listed above, other examples of why people turn to yoga therapy include: insomnia, stress, digestive issues, autoimmune disorders, and more. After assessing your current condition and needs we work together to develop a program that will optimize your body's own healing response. While each yoga therapy session is slightly different, most sessions include: relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, postures, meditation, mudra, and guided imagery.
